Your First Massage in Eau Claire, WI
What Actually Happens, Step by Step · $5 Off Your First Visit
A first massage is mostly a question of not knowing the script. The answer is short: you talk for about 5 minutes, you undress to whatever level you are comfortable with, you lie under a sheet, and a certified therapist works for 60 minutes while you do nothing. You are covered the entire time except the area being worked on.
This page walks through it in order — booking, arriving, the intake conversation, what to wear, what happens on the table, and what to do afterward. First visits at Q Healthy Spa are $5 off, and every session includes complimentary hot stone therapy and sauna access.
What You Should Know
Book 60 Minutes of Swedish
It is the standard first booking for a reason: light to moderate pressure, long flowing strokes, nothing intense. You can go deeper next time once you know what you like.
You Stay Covered
A sheet covers you for the whole session. Only the area being worked on is uncovered, and it is re-covered before your therapist moves on. This is standard practice, not a special request.
Undress to Your Comfort
Most people keep underwear on. Some keep more. Your therapist leaves the room while you get on the table and knocks before coming back. Nobody will comment either way.
Or Skip Undressing Entirely
Our futon floor-mat massage is done fully clothed on a padded mat with no oil. If the undressing part is what is putting you off, book that instead.
Speak Up About Pressure
'A bit lighter' is the single most useful sentence in the room and therapists genuinely want to hear it. You are not being difficult, and gritting through does not make it work better.
$5 Off, Plus Free Extras
Hot stone therapy and sauna access are included with every session. Plan 15 to 20 minutes for the sauna afterward — most first-timers are glad they did.

Booking, and what to book
Call 715-256-8288 and say it is your first massage. That one sentence changes the session: your therapist will build in more explanation, check in on pressure more often, and not assume you know the drill.
Ask for 60 minutes of Swedish unless you have a specific reason not to. Swedish is light to moderate pressure with long, flowing strokes — the easiest introduction. Deep tissue is excellent but intense, and it is a better second or third booking once you know how your body responds.

If undressing is the sticking point
Book futon floor-mat massage instead. It is done fully dressed on a padded mat on the floor, with no oil and no draping at all. Wear leggings or joggers and a t-shirt. It is our signature service and the only one of its kind in Eau Claire.
Plenty of people make that their first massage for exactly this reason and never go back to the table. There is no wrong answer here.
Arriving and the intake conversation
Arrive about 10 minutes early. We are at 2151 Eastridge Center, Floor 1, #C, with free parking directly in front of the suite — no meters, no garage, no stairs.
Then there is a conversation of about 5 minutes. It is not a test, and there are only four things worth mentioning: where you are sore or tight, how much pressure you think you want, anything medical, and anywhere you would rather not be touched. That last one needs no explanation and will simply be respected.
| Tell them | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Where you are sore or tight | Sets where the 60 minutes goes |
| Light, medium or firm pressure | Starting point — you can adjust anytime |
| Medications, especially blood thinners | Changes what is appropriate |
| Pregnancy | Changes positioning and some techniques |
| Skin conditions, recent injuries, surgery | Areas to work around |
| Areas you would rather skip | Respected, no reason needed |
| That it is your first massage | You get more explanation as you go |
On the table
Your therapist leaves the room and you have 3 to 5 minutes to undress to your comfort level and get under the sheet, usually face-down to start. They knock before coming back in.
From there you are covered the whole time. Only the area being worked on is uncovered — one leg, one arm, your back — and it is re-covered before they move on. About halfway through you will be asked to turn over, and your therapist will hold the sheet up so you can do it without exposure.

What you are supposed to do
Nothing. You do not need to help lift your arm, hold a position, or keep a conversation going. If a therapist wants to move a limb, they will move it. Breathe normally and let the table hold you.
Falling asleep is fine and extremely common. So is staying awake and quiet. So is chatting the whole time, though most first-timers find they stop talking about 10 minutes in.
The one thing you should say
If the pressure is too much, say so. 'A bit lighter, please' is all it takes, and it is the single most useful thing you can contribute. Massage should not be something you grit through — discomfort you are bracing against causes you to tense up, which works directly against the point.
The same goes for the room being too cold, the face cradle sitting wrong, or wanting more time on one spot. None of it is a bother.
Afterward, and whether to come back
Get up slowly, drink some water, and take your time. Most guests then spend 15 to 20 minutes in the sauna, which is included. Budget about 90 minutes at the spa in total for a 60 minute massage.
You may feel slightly tender the next day, especially if you asked for firm pressure. That is normal and usually gone within 24 to 48 hours. What you should not feel is bruised or genuinely sore — if you do, the pressure was too much, and the fix next time is simply to say so earlier.

What to book next
If the Swedish felt good but you wanted more depth, try deep tissue next. If it felt good but you wanted more stretch and movement, try futon. If your neck and shoulders were the whole story, the office worker session is built around exactly that.
And if you mainly wanted an hour of nothing, stress and sleep covers why that is a legitimate reason on its own. Most people settle into something every 2 to 4 weeks.
How to Book a Massage at Q Healthy Spa
Booking takes about 2 minutes and there is no online form to fill in. Call 715-256-8288 any day between 9:00 AM and 9:30 PM, say which service and length you want, and the session is held under your first name. Walk-ins are taken when a table is free, which on weekday afternoons is most of the time.
- Call 715-256-8288. Someone answers the phone during all 12.5 open hours, 7 days a week — there is no booking app and no deposit.
- Pick a length: 60 minutes for a full body session, 90 minutes for unhurried work on the back and shoulders, or 120 minutes when you want both.
- Pick a pressure: light, medium, or firm. You can change it mid-session at any point, and saying so does not offend anyone.
- Mention add-ons at booking. Cupping and gua sha are added to a 60 or 90 minute session and need a few extra minutes set aside.
- Arrive 5 to 10 minutes early at 2151 Eastridge Center, Floor 1, Suite C. Parking is free and the entrance is on the ground floor.
- Tell the therapist what hurts and what to avoid before the session starts. This 60-second conversation is what makes the other 59 minutes useful.
- Pay by cash or card at the end. First-time visitors get $5 off, and no appointment is needed to claim it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to take my clothes off?
Undress to whatever level you are comfortable with — most people keep underwear on, some keep more. Your therapist leaves the room for 3 to 5 minutes while you get under the sheet and knocks before returning. If undressing is the part putting you off, book futon floor-mat massage instead: it is done fully clothed with no oil.
Will I be covered during the massage?
Yes, for the entire session. A sheet covers you throughout and only the area being worked on is uncovered — one leg, one arm, your back — then re-covered before your therapist moves on. When you turn over about halfway through, they hold the sheet up so you can do it without exposure. This is standard practice everywhere.
What should I book for my first massage?
60 minutes of Swedish. It uses light to moderate pressure and long, flowing strokes, which is the easiest introduction. Deep tissue is excellent work but intense — a better second or third booking once you know how your body responds. Say it is your first massage when you call at 715-256-8288 and your therapist will explain as they go.
What do I need to tell the therapist?
Four things: where you are sore or tight, whether you want light, medium or firm pressure, anything medical (medications especially blood thinners, pregnancy, skin conditions, recent injuries or surgery), and any area you would rather skip. That last one needs no explanation and will simply be respected.
What if the pressure is too much?
Say so — 'a bit lighter, please' is all it takes, and it is the most useful thing you can contribute. Massage should not be something you grit through: bracing against discomfort makes you tense up, which works against the whole point. The same goes for the room being cold or the face cradle sitting wrong.
How long should I set aside?
About 90 minutes at the spa for a 60 minute massage. Arrive 10 minutes early, allow about 5 for intake and 3 to 5 to undress, then 15 to 20 minutes in the sauna afterward if you want it — and it is included, so most people do.
Will I be sore afterward?
You may feel slightly tender the next day, especially after firm pressure, and it is usually gone within 24 to 48 hours. What you should not feel is bruised or genuinely sore. If you do, the pressure was too much for you — which is easily fixed next time by speaking up earlier.
Is there a first-visit discount?
Yes, $5 off your first session at Q Healthy Spa, and every session includes complimentary hot stone therapy and sauna access at no extra charge. We are at 2151 Eastridge Center, Floor 1, #C, Eau Claire, open 9:00 AM to 9:30 PM all 7 days with free parking outside.
